Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS)

Transcranial magnetic stimulation was approved by the FDA in 2008 for treatment resistant depression (TRD) and has shown to be very effective for thousands of patients suffering TRD. TMS is an out-patient, non-invasive treatment that uses magnetic energy to stimulate underactive areas of the brain known to affect mood and depression. Patients sit in a chair during their treatment and are fully awake, alert, and able to talk to their provider. TMS is very effective for most patients in alleviating their depression symptoms with minimal side effects (occasional mild to moderate headache or possible scalp discomfort), no sedation, no downtime; and you may resume daily activities right after treatment. TMS visits are generally 30 minutes in length, five times per week for 4-6 weeks, and the therapy is covered by most insurance companies. Relief from the symptoms of depression after TMS therapy can last 12 months or longer in many instances and approximately 30 percent of patients achieve permanent remission of their depression symptoms after a TMS treatment series. TMS therapy can also be repeated after if necessary if your symptoms return.

We use the Magventure device to provide our TMS therapy. To learn more about the device and TMS therapy please visit Magventure.

Major depression affects millions of people and can be debilitating. Medication alone may not be effective in providing relief for many individuals. Contending with medication side effects and patient response rates have resulted in increased interest in finding alternatives or adjuncts to medication therapy. TMS is drug free and nearly side effect free - an excellent option to alleviate your symptoms and improve your quality of life.
